9/15/2018 (Sat) North Shore Trail Run Half-Marathon, 10K & 5K 13th
Annual In the State Park, Clinton Lake, Lawrence, KS 9:00 AM Race Director:
This is a fun trail-running event with something for everybody. There's a 5K that's perfect for first-time
trailrunners. The 10K is fun, but challenging. The Half-marathon is a multi-loop course of awesomeness! This race is a lot of fun, and many
Trail Nerds started running on trails, because of this little event. We moved the start to within the State Park in
2011, to help with State Park funding. There is a $5 entry fee (per car), to enter the State Park, but it is a worthwhile
cause, to support this wonderful State Park!
All online entrants prior
to Sep 10 get a nice event shirt. We have previous years' shirts for those who register late...first come, first
serve. All photos (by Mile 90 Photography) will be free and downloadable.
All Half-Marathon finishers get a large, uniquely-designed
finisher's medal. All 10K finishers also get a big medal!
All finishers get
a distance-specific oval sticker. Race Day
Packet Pickup will be starting at 7:30 AM, AT THE RACE, ON RACE MORNING. And yes, there is race-day late
registration.
More Information:
For
2017, there will be Saturday Day of Race Packet Pickup (at the race site), only. Packet
Pickup starts on Saturday at 7:30 AM. And yes, there is race-day late registration.
Location The race start is just inside of the State Park Entrance...look for the Trail Nerd Flags and yellow “Trail Race”
signs to lead you there. There's a $5 fee for entering the park. To get there, set your GPS for: 798 N 1415
Road, Lawrence, Kansas Pre-registered If you want to change to a shorter distance,
please let them know at packet pickup…they will need to change your bib color, also. Course
Marking The course will be marked with little pink ground flags and directional arrow signs, (a black arrow
on a yellow background). Here's an example of the little pink ground flags that will be on the course. Trail No pavement, but more like a cross-country grass course with some interesting
bits and gorgeous views; very nice.
Course and Special Instructions for your Distance: Please pin your bib number to the FRONT of you somewhere, so that it is VISIBLE. The
5K is a one-loop course that is slightly long. The 10K course is a two-loop course.
The Half Marathon is a 4-loop course.
Race Day Start Times All three event distances start at 9:00 AM.
Please
show up on race day about 1-hour prior to your race’s start time. Please check-in at the pre-registration table.
And yes, there is race day entry for others that may be signing-up late. North Shore Trail Race
Instructions & Rules Speed Limits and Parking Obey all speed limits,
signage, and parking regulations while driving in the park. When arriving, stop at the front gate and pay the park entrance
fee. Watch for wild animals, bicycles and pedestrians crossing the roads. There will be a field that you park in, that
will be marked with a sign that says, "Event Parking." A Hydration Device is Highly Recommended There will be plenty of (water) aid along the course, but we encourage (for your own safety) that you carry a water bottle
or hydration system with you. It may take you longer than you think to get to the next water stop. Aid
Stations: There will be unstaffed (water-only) aid stations, with cups & trashcans. Do Not Litter!
For the 10K and Half, there will also be a full-service aid station, with water, Gatorade sportsdrink, HammerGel, and maybe
a few goodies at the start of each subsequent loop. Porta-johns will be there, also. No
Littering! We love this State Park. Littering on the course will not be tolerated and will result in
removal from the race and the results. Cut-off Times In the interest of your safety,
there will be a 12:30 p.m. cut-off time for finishing the race. For our slower participants: Our “course sweeper”
person(s) will escort you to the finish line, for your safety. Dropping-out of the race:
During the race, if you've bit-off more than you can chew, you can always drop at the end of a loop, but you will need
to notify the results team, so we aren't searching for you. Special Weather-related Safety
Information Your safety is our primary concern. In the event of severe weather (lightning, flooding, winds
above 40 MPH, or tornado), we will shut the race down. Results Results will
be available later Saturday evening at the Race Day Timing Solutions site. Photos Mile 90 Photography takes the BEST and most professional trail race photos, ever!
We contract with them and pay for the photos, so that you can download them, without extra cost. Photos may be up by
the evening after the race. You can check on their website, or wait for a link to them to be posted on our Trail Nerds Facebook site.

Course Marking The course will be marked with little pink
ground flags and directional arrow signs, (a black arrow on a yellow background). Here's an example of the little pink ground flags that will be on the course. There will
also be Wrong Way signs that keep you from going off-course. For the 5K: you will have to watch for your
sharp right turn, about 1.2 miles into the race. Everybody else will keep going straight. This is the sign you
need to look for:
Most of the "head-bumpers" and other overhead obstructions will be marked with pink tape.
